Nordic thrillers are all the rage in the world of television at the moment. Most will be familiar with THE KILLING or at least it’s American counterpart. That series alone was enough to spark interest in what our Danish cousins have been up to, which lead to shows such as UNIT ONE, starring future Hannibal Lecter Mads Mikkelsen, getting well deserved UK releases. Now the Nordic Noir label has announced an 18th March release date for THE PROTECTORS.
THE PROTECTORS follows P.E.T., the Danish police force in charge of personal protection and comes from co-creators of UNIT ONE Mai Brostrom and Peter Thorsboe. Nordic Noir is brought to you by Arrow Films, and head of marketing Jon Sadler had this to say:
Subsequent to the success of the BBC FOUR Nordic dramas, which we acquired home entertainment rights to; WALLANDER, THE KILING, BORGEN and THE BRIDGE we have now delved deeper into a rich back catalogue of equally rewarding crime dramas, stretching back a decade and more. And whilst many of these series’ will not see a British TV transmission the fan-base and appetite for more product of a similar ilk exists to an extent for us to bring them directly to the market.
It’s great to see material from other parts of the world finally getting the recognition it deserves, as opposed to just constant remakes, although those remakes do bring attention to the originals, it’s nice to see something in its original form. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more and more incredible releases in the future.
THE PROTECTORS is released on 18th March 2013. It stars Cecilie Stenspil, Soren Vejby, Andre Babikian, Thomas W. Gabrielsson, Ditte Grabol, and Rasmus Bjerg.
