In our recent interview with SINISTER writer/director Scott Derrickson, we got the scoop that he was working toward developing a sequel to last years bloodcurdling horror hit, although he suggested he’d most likely only pen the follow-up. Now we can officially confirm that Blumhouse Productions is moving forward with SINISTER 2.
Last October, SINISTER grossed more than $87M worldwide on a budget of only $3 million. Producer Jason Blum had much the same success with the tepid PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise, and James Wan’s more impressive INSIDIOUS, which is set to shoot its own sequel in the summer.
Ethan Hawke headlined SINISTER, which followed a struggling true-crime author and his investigations that leads him on a dark, supernatural journey into the unknown.
Both Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill are expected to write the new film and guide it towards its development but Derrickson has his hands full in directing DEUS EX and an adaptation of Stephen King’s THE BREATHING METHOD, so wont return to helm. We’ll keep you posted on other potential developments.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
