Soderbergh’s ‘Behind The Candelabra’ Has A First Trailer

This week sees the release of Steven Soderbergh’s (possible) final film – social-commentary thriller, SIDE EFFECTS – as it’s expected he’ll take a self imposed break from the film world, which may even lead to retirement. However, he still has the passion-project, BEHIND THE CANDELABRA, to hit HBO on 26th May. The film stars frequent collaborator, Michael Douglas as the lead in the biopic of flamboyant musician and entertainer Liberace.

Matt Damon co-stars as his younger lover Scott Thorston with the script adapted by Oscar-nominated writer Richard LaGravense, which is based on Thorston’s same-titled biography. BEHIND THE CANDELABRA also features Rob Lowe, Dan Aykroyd, Scott Bakula, Debbie Reynolds and Nicky Katt, with the film’s focus on the duo’s troubled relationships during the entertainers 1970s heyday.

Liberace passed away in 1985, aged 67. He was one of the first high-profile figures to die from the AIDS virus, although members of his estate tried to keep his cause of death under wraps. Check out the first teaser trailer below and let us know what you think.

Yes, disappointing as there is still no real footage.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
