Warner Bros. had better do something, and they’d better do something quick. At the moment, Disney is dancing all over them with the Marvel brand and will soon have STAR WARS movies under its belt. Warner Bros. on the other hand, are still struggling with getting their JUSTICE LEAGUE film off the ground. JUSTICE LEAGUE would join the forces of DC Comics’ best and brightest superheroes such as Batman, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern.
Despite JUSTICE LEAGUE being given a 2015 release date, the film has struggled with giving us any news since, as it is said Warner Bros. want to see how well MAN OF STEEL does first, and a script by Will Beale being thrown out. The latest rumour comes from the often reliable folks at Latino Review, which were the site to first break such news stories as Ledger being the Joker, Brandon Routh being Superman, and Nolan and Goyer being involved with MAN OF STEEL.
This rumour suggest that Christopher Nolan is going to produce a justice league film and that Zack Snyder will co-produce and possibly direct. But perhaps most exciting of all is that Christian Bale is expected to return as Batman. In a video report over at Latino Review it is said:
Christopher Nolan has completely taken over the DCU at Warner Bros. Anything having to do with these super heroes, goes through him now. So like with MAN OF STEEL, [Nolan’s] going to be involved with godfathering/producing while Zack Snyder will be co-producing and will possibly be the director. They’re shaping this as a vehicle for Christian Bale to reprise his role as Batman and join Henry Cavill‘s Superman in the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.
This may seem to conflict with everything Nolan has said so far, and would also change the emotion behind the end of his Batman franchise, but Warner Bros. are obviously desperate at this point. I’d guess there is no limit to what they would be willing to pay Nolan and Bale to come back on board. However, I just couldn’t care less about JUSTICE LEAGUE right now, despite being a fan of the comics. The whole project just wreaks of poor planning and trying to ride on the coattails of THE AVENGERS success. Warner Bros. and DC certainly haven’t earned their stripes in regards to superhero films. It only took Marvel 4 years to build up to THE AVENGERS. With this year’s MAN OF STEEL being the first step towards a team-up film, Warner Bros. could easily reboot Batman/Green Lantern and introduce The Flash and Wonder Woman, and have a decent JUSTICE LEAGUE film by 2017. After all, the superhero boom has been going on for over 13 years now and it’s still hitting new heights.
