If you’re in the US or Canada, then you’ll know the highly entertaining Jon Stewart well for The Daily Show and if you’ve been keeping an eye out in the UK, you may have also caught the excellent satirical show over on Comedy Central. It’s no secret that Jon laughs a little at his own acting career with a few parts in the likes of DEATH TO SMOOCHY and JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKES BACK but now the funny man with a very informed mind and is now turning his hand to serious directing.
ROSEWATER is an adaptation of the Maziar Bahari’s book Then They Came For Me: A Family’s Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival. He wrote the screenplay himself, which chronicles the harrowing journey of the BBC journalist after he left London to cover Iran’s presidential elections in 2009. Working on the film will see him take a 12-week break from presenting The Daily Show to concentrate on this astonishing story about Maziar Bahari after he was expected to stay a week, but ended up being captured and held for 118 days.
Stewart seems like the kind of guys who would have a vested interest in getting this story shared, so we feel this is very close to his heart and something that will be lovingly, and correctly, looked after. With the recent success of ARGO, people will be very intrigued by such an amazing real-life story and I really hope that something astonishing comes out of this. Brit reporter and co-star John Oliver will take over the hosting for 8 weeks, so it’ll all be interesting to see how he takes on The Daily Show, as he’s in the vein of Colbert and also has his own style.
More news on ROSEWATER as and when we hear it! Oh, and go check out The Daily Show on Comedy Central UK!
