With writer/director Sam Raimi admitting he wasn’t convinced or committed to another EVIL DEAD offering until his passion for the project recently reared its head, fans of the splatter franchise have been waiting eagerly for any sort of news. I doubt we’ll hear anything concrete regarding the project and any official green light, following Raimi’s announcement that he’ll write a fourth instalment this summer with brother Ivan. Most probably as he’ll not want to take a shine off Fede Alvarez’ upcoming and excellently received remake as well as seeing the box-office numbers it brings.

Ghost House Pictures and Raimi’s longterm producing partner Rob Tapert, when asked about EVIL DEAD 4 at last night SXSW premiere of Alvarez’ reboot, clarified the film which could be Raimi’s next project, will be a follow-up the to 1993s cult quotable classic, ARMY OF DARKNESS:

That would be ‘Army of Darkness 2’. Everybody calls it ‘Evil Dead 4’ but ‘Army of Darkness’ wasn’t called ‘Evil Dead’ anywhere except by the fans.

At the same event, the legendary Bruce Campbell was asked about his feelings on a potential return as cult, boomstick-blasting Ash:

Sam threatens this every six months. I’ve heard this a thousand times, because in the back of his mind, he never wants to let go, because he loved making these movies. We all loved making them together. They were a nightmare to make, very difficult, but they lasted the test of time, so he’s not going to let that go, and I’m never going to say ‘no.’ It’ll be me and a walker fighting some other old guy. But that’s what he does and who knows? It may happen.

The EVIL DEAD remake went down a screaming storm at its world premiere and the film’s director Alvarez has already confirmed he’s already at work on a sequel.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
