Dane DeHaan Talks About His Role In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Dane DehaanIndie darling Dane DeHaan has not had the biggest of studio roles, but the world will have a bigger glimpse of this talent when he stars as Harry Osborn in the sequel to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

Dehaan talked about the differences between Harry Osborn’s relationship with his father compared to his others roles (his role as Osborn will be his third role with an estranged father/son relationship) but he does mention just how different they are. He said:

“First of all, CHRONICLE was about a kid with an abusive father, PLACE BEYOND THE PINES’ is about a kid who doesn’t know who his father is, and they’re very different relationships. Obviously with Harry Osborn, the privilege of it is another dynamic. The relationship Harry has with Norman is a different dynamic. Every son has a relationship with their father, whether that father is there or not, and that always has an effect on the person whether they admit it or not. There’s a lot of different ways those relationships are complicated.”

DeHaan has made it pretty clear that he was not the biggest comic book nerd to begin with, but he said that his lack of knowledge in a series should not really affect the performance.

‘”I don’t think you have to be a fan of something to do the job. My job as an actor is the same job, whether it’s a comic book movie or a gritty Derek Cianfrance drama, or a ‘Chronicle,’ or a ‘Lawless,’ which is to take a character and, for lack of better word, to breathe life into it. I’m a fan of acting!”

But when the question turned to James Franco’s performance as Harry Osborn, DeHaan made it clear that he was going to have a different take on it, saying:

“Franco did his thing, I’ll do mine.”

Quite right to, we hope!
