Will You Go ‘Psycho’ For First Six Minutes Of ‘Bates Motel’

With Bryan Fuller bringing us a small screen interpretation of one of cinemas iconic bogeymen in NBC’s HANNIBAL, A&E have their very own in the form of a contemporary  re-imagining of PSYCHO’s Norman Bates with BATES MOTEL. Freddie Highmore takes on the evolution of a killer as the notorious troubled, cross-dressing teen, whose love or his mom, is only matched by his growing lust for murder. The ever-excellent Vera Farmiga plays his devoted mother Norma, oblivious (… or is she), to his increasingly disturbing behaviour.

Here we have a look at the first 6-minutes of the series which will air on the US network 18th March. No word yet on a UK channel or date.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

The first six minutes have my attention. I work at DISH with some buddies who plan to watch the premiere because of this clip, so I wonder if we’ll have a viewing party. It looks like Bates Motel will offer plenty of suspenseful moments worth watching multiple times, so I’m saving it all to my DISH Hopper. It has been great to not have to be picky with my TV lineup, because my Hopper’s hard drive stores up to 2,000 hours of entertainment, so anything worth watching has the space.
