‘Jane Got A Gun’ But Not A Director

Lynne Ramsay Mobius Moby Dick In Space

Director Lynne Ramsey was due to follow-up her unforgettable, devastating drama, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, with period western thriller, JANE GOT A GUN. Shooting was set to begin today in Santa Fe on the film following young married women Jane (Natalie Portman), who runs away from her outlaw husband and teams up with an old flame in an effort to protect her family. Apparently, Ramsey has failed to show up leaving the project and those working on it, in a state of shock.

Michael Fassbender’s dropping out last week could be the trigger following scheduling conflicts with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. His role we was quickly swapped with that of co-star Joel Edgerton (who was due to play the ruthless husband), and Jude Law taking Edgerton’s villainous role.

Producer Scott Steindorff commented:

I have millions of dollars invested, we’re ready to shoot, we have a great script, crew and cast. I’m shocked and so disappointed someone would do this to 150 crew members who devoted so much time, energy, commitment and loyalty to a project, and then have the director not show up. It is insane somebody would do this to other people. I feel more for the crew and their families, but we are keeping the show going on, directors are flying in, and a replacement is imminent.

Who would you like to see given the project?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
