Remember Evian’s advert with the babies skating to Rapper’s delight? That was the work of Michael Gracey. While his name might not be familiar to some, you might want to do your research because he is set to direct a very buzzed about biopic. It was announced today that Gracey has signed on as director for ROCKETMAN, the upcoming musical biopic on the life of Elton John. Lee Hall, the screenwriter for BILLY ELLIOT, has penned the script.
ROCKETMAN will mark Gracey’s second feature film, the first being another musical: THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH, which is set to star Hugh Jackman. Rocket Pictures, the company that produces all of Elton John’s projects, said that they were very excited to have Gracey on as director. CEO Steve Hamilton Shaw said:
“Michael has an innovative, imaginative and compelling vision for the film, we want to create an experience that surprises and moves audiences and knew immediately that he was the perfect director to take them on this journey.”
But the big question is, who will play Elton John? Should they just sign up Justin Timberlake and call it a day?
