Disney Classic ‘Pete’s Dragon’ To Flame Up A Remake

Petes-Dragon-PS

Another day, another remake, reboot or re-imagining! Walt Disney Pictures has confirmed plans are in motion to give their loveable family 1977 live-action/animation classic, PETE’S DRAGON, a modern upgrade. The original musical, starring the legendary actor Mickey Rooney and CARRY ON favourite Jim Dale, centred on a young orphan boy with an imaginary and friendly Dragon named Elliot.

Disney have tasked AINT THEM BODIES SAINTS writer/director David Lowery and his writing partner, Toby Halbrooks with bringing us the screenplay. Despite having experience, Lowery won’t direct and will only contribute to the script which is not expected to keep the ‘musical’ aspect. Sticking instead, to a stright-forward narrative.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
