We’ve saw both DRIVE and RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES directors Nicolas Winding-Refn and Rupert Wyatt respectively, walk away from a modern big-screen reboot of classic 1980s series, THE EQUALIZER. Now we have a new name attached to the film in which Denzel Washington will take the role of retired intelligence agent Robert McCall, previously played by the late Edward Woodward. The original series followed McCall, now making a living as a hired ‘fixer’, who uses his trusted contacts and skills to bring his own brand of justice.
TRAINING DAY’s Antoine Fuqua is now said to be in talks to take over the Columbia Pictures project which has a script by THE MECHANIC’s Richard Wenk. If Fuqua signs on, it will be the first time the duo have worked together since Washington’s Oscar-winning role as corrupt detective Alonso Harris, 12 years ago! Fuqua is also behind Gerard Butler’s all-star actioner OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, which hits the US on Friday and the UK from the 17th April

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
