Earlier today we reported that Rufus Sewell would be joining the cast of Brett Ratner’s HERCULES. Dwayne Johnson will be playing the popular mythical hero, and it looks as though he will be supported by quite the range of thespians. Ian McShane, John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes Rebecca Ferguson have all joined the cast in unspecified roles. The film will take a ‘grounded’ look at HERCULES, becoming a man of myth via wild stories and heroic achievements, rather than being the son of a God. The film is looking to start production in November and will be co-produced by MGM and Paramount. Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos have written the script and the film hopes to be released on 25th July 2014.
President of MGM’s Motion Picture Group, Jonathan Glickman, had this to say about the casting:
We are thrilled to surround Dwayne with an ensemble cast featuring legendary actors as well as some of the finest emerging talents working today. We are anxious to get production underway on what promises to be a high-action film that works around the globe.
This is one of those films that I really can’t guess as to how it will turn out. Which I guess makes it all the more exciting.
