After numerous attempts to kickstart the project, Universal Pictures have finally confirmed their origin story of vicious, bloodsucking vampire, DRACULA: YEAR ZERO, will go into production this year, although now with the simple title of DRACULA. Welsh actor Luke Evans has landed the lead role as the Count who makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his wife and child. The film will introduce us to the heroic young mortal prince who is threatened by a bloodthirsty sultan. He sacrifices his soul in order to preserve their lives but in turn becomes the iconic evil character we now know from Bram Stoker’s novel.

Commercial director Gary Shore will make his feature film debut with the horror film expected next year. We’ll keep you posted as the project develops. Evans meanwhile, will next be seen as a ruthless serial-killer in twisted WWE slasher, NO ONE LIVES.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
