Warner’s Tap ‘Walking Dead’s Glenn Mazzara To Pen ‘The Shining’ Prequel ‘The Overlook Hotel’

The Shining

Stephen King is soon to release his follow-up to classic horror novel THE SHINING, which is entitled ‘Dr. Sleep‘ and follows a grown-up Danny Torrance, still struggling with his rare gift and the horrific events of his youth, but Waner Bros. appear to have plans of their very own. The studio who were behind Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1980 adaptation (which author King openly loathes) are working on a prequel, currently known as ‘THE OVERLOOK HOTEL, and have hired THE WALKING DEAD’s former showrunner Glen Mazzara to pen the screenplay.

Mazzara controversially took over Frank Darabont’s role on AMC’s runaway hit series during season 2 and had consistently delivered high-ratings, despite disappointing many fans. It’s expected the plot will focus of the hauntings prior the caretaker family arriving for ‘that’ winter. Mazzara has a string of solid TV writing work behind him including THE SHIELD, LIFE and of course, THE WALKING DEAD, but this will be his first project in feature film.

We’ll keep you posted as the project develops.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
