Tom Cruise is currently enjoying life at the top of most international charts, though his sci-epic OBLIVION is still to hit domestic US cinemas this weekend. He’ll also next be seen in Doug Liman’s futuristic action-thriller ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s best-selling novel and hitting March 2014. Now we can confirm the likeable, all-smiling superstar has signed up for another foray into science-fiction with YUKIKAZE, an adaptation of Japanese novel series by Chohei Kambayashi, which has previously been adapted into a series of award-winning, cult anime efforts.

At this point, it’s unsure if the film will keep that title but the plot follows a planetary defence force known as the ‘Yukikaza’, fighting off an alien invasion using a wormhole over Antarctica. We’ll keep you posted on potential directing talent and co-stars.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
