We’ve received a press release from Richwater Productions announcing that they’ll team-up with Universal Pictures UK on the domestic release of gangland crime thriller TOP DOG. The film comes from the author of best-selling novel GREEN STREET, Dougie Brimson, which was adapted into a hit hooligan drama starring Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam. Leo Gregory (who also featured in that film) will lead the story of London bad boy Billy Evans and his attempts at climbing the criminal underworld ladder. London. Jonathan Sothcott’s Richwater Productions has announced that it is partnering with Universal Pictures UK for the domestic release of its crime thriller TOP DOG, based on the cult novel by Green Street writer Dougie Brimson. The deal was negotiated by Sothcott for Richwater and Richard Thompson for Universal.
Jonathan Sothcott commented “every film-maker dreams of seeing that Universal globe at the start of their movie, it is the acknowledged badge of Hollywood endorsement. Leo, Dougie and I are delighted to be in business with them and I am thrilled to be partnered with such an acclaimed writer and credible star on this project. We are aiming to deliver a crime film that will sit with the likes on The Long Good Friday and Rise of the Footsoldier.”
Richard Thompson commented; “I’m very excited at the prospect of working on Top Dog with Dougie, Jonathan and Leo – it’s a great, proven combination for the genre and one that all at Universal are looking forward to bringing to fruition.”
Top Dog, which is set to star Leo Gregory (Wild Bill, All Things To All Men) is pencilled for a June shoot on location in London. Leo Gregory and Dougie Brimson are serving as co-producers on the project. Casting is underway now.
