They’re a lesser known band than some, but The Frames have inspired many musically throughout Ireland and outside of the UK and, for me, deserve a whole lot more recognition. They were founded in 1990 by Glen Hansard who you might remember for his role as Outspan Foster in the brilliant THE COMMITMENTS but also more recently for his part in ONCE, in which Hansard and Markéta Irglová not only played the lead roles but they also wrote the songs. In fact, ‘Falling Slowly’ from ONCE won the Oscar at the 80th Academy Awards for Best Original Song and has also just started a stage run in the West End.
Today we wanted to share the truly engaging trailer for THE FRAMES: IN THE DEEP SHADE, a documentary that’s described as “a poetic and visceral experience” and from this first look, you can feel the world that the band live in and the passion that flows through their music.
This is the debut film by Conor Masterson and it entwines a series of performances, interviews and fly on the wall vignettes and explores their status as musicians and artists who have been creating music together for over 20 years. Their relationships are observed as they interact onstage and off-stage as a tight-knit family. Their approach to making music is also discussed and intercut with live concert footage showing this legendary Irish band close up and personal. Check out the trailer here:
