Martin Scorsese To Finally Shoot Adaptation Of ‘Silence’

Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese has wanted to adapt the novel by Shusako Endo since 1991, so it has been one hell of a long time to get this project off the ground. But finally, it has been announced that Marty’s passion project has been given the green light! SILENCE  is set in the 17th century and focuses on two Jesuit priests that face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity.

SILENCE has been put off and on for many years, but financing has now been secured with a joint venture by Furla Films and Corsan Films  and it allows production to start in Taiwain in July 2014. But the big question now is: Who will be cast? Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio del Toro were rumoured to be cast at one point, with Gael Garcia Bernal supporting, but there is no official word yet. If Scorsese does want Day-Lewis he will have to be quick, he is reported to be taking another one of his acting breaks.
