Sylvester Stallone has revealed to fans via his Twitter account just who will take over directing action sequel THE EXPENDABLES 3. While it’s unknown if he actively sought Mel Gibson to helm, it won’t be Oscar-winning director and troubled superstar actor taking the reigns from Simon West.
Australian director Patrick Hughes, who helmed the stylish western slasher RED HILL starring Ryan Kwantan, will direct the blockbusting action extravaganza that is sure to reunite Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Ludgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Jet Li, with recently reported newcomers Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan.
Hughes’ Aussie chiller is worth a watch and certainly showed that he has some genuine talent in crafting a taut suspense film in a unique location. How he handles a big-budget all-star action spectacle, only time will tell.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
