Guillermo Del Toro To Develop Manga ‘Monster’ For HBO

Monster ImageGuillermo Del Toro has more projects running consecutively than many directors get completed in a decade. The PACIFIC RIM director will be teaming up with television Gods HBO to produce a series based on the frankly incredible manga MONSTER. The original intention was to bring this comic to the big-screen via New Line Cinema. However, considering the series ran over 18 books, the wise decision has been made to develop it into a TV series. Del Toro will script the show along with Steven Thompson (SHERLOCK), and will also direct the pilot. MONSTER follows a surgeon who saves a young boy’s life, but soon discovers that this young boy will release terrible evil onto the world. The books were also adapted into a fantastic anime series.

PACIFIC RIM is released 12th July 2013. It stars Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
