It’s expected of bands as huge as Metallica to release concert DVDs and behind-the-scenes videos…but whole movies?! Yes, Metallica are behind the upcoming music-based ‘drama’ THROUGH THE NEVER, featuring the band and THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES star Dane DeHaan. With such huge talents coming together for the project, it was only right for them to appear at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, where drummer Lars Ulrich discussed his love of film.
When asked how they managed to arrange appearing at the convention, Lars said:
“About six/eight months ago, when we hooked up with our distributors to do this movie, the first thing they said to us when we met them was ‘Comic-Con’. And we went ‘F*ck yeah’. So here we are.”
You may be thinking that THROUGH THE NEVER is just going to be your standard concert film, with inserts from the band members. You would, however, be wrong. The film is based around a special gig, specifically organised and performed for footage, with a story focusing on a roadie (DeHaan) who is sent on a special mission. Lars went on to say:
“It’s a dramatic film set against the backdrop of a concert. I did an interview two days ago with somebody who’s actually seen the whole movie, and he said it reminded him of the first time he saw FIGHT CLUB. So I took it as a compliment…Everything about the film is created for the film. So the stage and the gadgets, everything is just done with a movie in mind. If this movie is successful as people want, maybe we’ll go tour with this show and this stage. But everything about it was created for the intent for making this movie. It’s unlike anything you’ve seen. Maybe it’s as weird as FIGHT CLUB.”
Whether THROUGH THE NEVER resembles David Fincher’s cult classic or couldn’t be farther away, I’m sure Metallica fans around the globe will love it. While you’re reading, check out the brand new trailer below!
Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging.
Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
