Copley & Blomkamp Reunite For Sci-fi Comedy ‘Chappie’

sharlto copley

Visionary director Neill Blomkamp will re-team with South African acting muse Sharlto Copley for a third time on what the filmmaker recently called “a science-fiction comedy” in an “unusual setting.” That is as much as we know on the plot of the mystery project titled CHAPPIE.

Copley, who also formed part of THE A-TEAM and will next been seen as the villain of both futuristic epic ELYSIUM (released in the US 9th August and the UK 20th September) and Spike Lee’s OLDBOY remake (released 11th October), made his feature film debut as the lead Wikus Van De Merwe in Blomkamp’s Oscar-nominated DISTRICT 9. He’s also onboard another science-fiction thriller, EUROPA REPORT, in which plays an Astronaut exploring Jupiter’s fourth moon, who along with his team, runs into trouble.

More as we get it.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
