Garfield & Watanabe Swear ‘Silence’ For Scorsese

680x478

We recently brought you news that Martin Scorsese was finally moving forward with passion project SILENCE, and now we word on the two leads. Currently shooting superhero sequel, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, Andrew Garfield is the first of two names to come aboard. He’ll also be joined by international star and Oscar-nominee Ken Watanabe in the drama based on the novel by Shusaku Endo, which is set in the 17th century and centres on two Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when arriving in Japan to locate their mentor.

Shooting on SILENCE is now scheduled to begin next summer. Considering the main plot, we doubt they’ll be many more big names to come onboard but we’ll keep you updated, as ever.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
