After the international success of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL it should come as no surprise that a fifth MISSION IMPOSSIBLE film was announced almost immediately, but only now has the franchise’s star Tom Cruise signed a deal to appear. Cruise continues to be one of the biggest stars in the world, and recently may have started another franchise after the success of JACK REACHER. That film managed to take in upwards of $200 million on a $60 million budget. Add to that Tom Cruise received his biggest box office opening thanks to OBLIVION. Despite these successes, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL is still Cruise’s highest grossing film to date, so it’s a franchise I doubt he’ll be leaving anytime soon. A writer and director are yet to be attached to the project, but it’s probably something we’ll hear more about in the near future. One name that is doing the rounds is Cruise’s JACK REACHER director Christopher McQuarrie. Cruise is also attached to star in Guy Ritchie’s THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. and a new take on VAN HELSING. He’ll next be seen in Doug Liman’s ALL YOU NEED IS KILL.
