Imagine, if you can, you are Junior Dos Santos: you are the reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion and successfully defended your championship against long-time title contender Frank Mir at UFC 146, but earlier in the night you’ve seen the man you knocked-out to gain the championship, Cain Velasquez, comprehensively destroy Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva in a fight which promises the winner a shot at your gold. Sounds terrifying doesn’t it? Well not for Junior ‘Cigano’ Dos Santos.
The main event of UFC 155 is a rematch of a fight that took place in November 2011 when Junior Dos Santos knocked-out Cain Velasquez in one minute and four seconds to become the only man to finish Velasquez and, more importantly, win the UFC Heavyweight championship. The rematch promises to be a more exciting affair than their first encounter, mainly due to the fact that going into the first fight Velasquez was coming off a year out the Octagon with a torn rotator cuff, and it doesn’t disappoint. The video package before the fight perfectly sets the tone and the action once the bell rings is relentless.
The most entertaining fight on the undercard is Joe Lauzon vs Jim Miller, two veterans of the UFC’s lightweight division incapable of being part of boring fights. With over 30 submission victories and 8 fight of the night bonuses between them, this is a surefire barn-stormer, and isn’t one for the feint of heart as Lauzon suffers a nasty cut above his right eye early after some vicious elbows from Miller and continues to bleed throughout. Adding to the drama the crowd play their part in the fight, and both fighters leave everything in the octagon.
The whole card isn’t of the same high standard though. Yushin Okami versus Alan Belcher is almost the exact same fight as their bout at UFC 62 in 2006, and if you’ve ever seen Okami fight, you know that isn’t a good thing.
There are 12 fights total on this DVD and the Miller/Lauzon fight alone make it worth the purchase. Add to that the exciting Heavyweight title fight, a decent scrap between Costa Philippou and Tim Boetsch, and an entertaining main card opener from Derek Brunson and Chris Leen, and UFC 155 is very satisfying.
