Ben Wheatley’s ‘A Field In England’ For Multiple Release Formats

A Field In EnglandBen Wheatley, the director of independent cult hits KILL LIST and SIGHTSEERS, is all ready to unleash his next project, A FIELD IN ENGLAND. Not only will he and distributor Picturehouse Entertainment be releasing the film, but they’ll be releasing the film in multiple formats on the same day. The film will hit theatres, DVD, TV, and VOD on 5th July. Film4, distributor Picturehouse Entertainment, 4DVD, Film4 Channel and the BFI Distribution Fund have all joined forces to make this release possible.

Releasing the film over multiple platforms is an attempt at combating piracy, but also allowing viewers to watch the film the way they would prefer. This could be a very important leap in terms of film distribution. There are plenty of films which I would rather see at home, rather than on the big screen, and some films I want to own and others I want to see just once. However, by the time those cinema releases become DVDs, I’ve often forgotten about them.

Film4.0 commissioning editor Anna Higgs states:

The film is a really exciting next step in the progression of Ben’s work as a director and will be something the likes of which a whole generation of audiences won’t have ever seen. I’m incredibly pleased we’ve formed this innovative partnership to take this brilliant film out to them in a truly groundbreaking way.

A FIELD IN ENGLAND is set during England’s 17th century Civil War and follows a group of deserters searching out a treasure. Wheatley’s past work has been absolutely fantastic, if not always in quality, then at least in offering something different and unique.

A FIELD IN ENGLAND is released in the UK on 5th July in cinemas, on DVD, on TV, and on VOD. It stars Michael Smiley, Julian Barratt, Reece Shearsmith, and Peter Ferdinando.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
