John Carpenter Expresses Interest In ‘Dead Space’ Movie

carpenter2

He’s arguably one of cinemas most iconic filmmakers following unforgettable efforts HALLOWEEN, THE THING and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK but director John Carpenter appears to have wound his career down over the last decade or so. His output over those latter years may not have hit the heights of his consistently terrific early days but he’s still one of my movie idols. That being said, I’m clueless when it comes to video-games but the 65 year-old Master Of Terror has his eye on adapting EA’s third-person shooter sc-fi/horror/fantasy game, DEAD SPACE.

The franchise is not solely a joystick gem, having branched out into dark animated movies, comic-books and novels. However, Carpenter can see it’s perfectly ripe for big-screen fear, saying:

I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I’ll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made. You know it’s great. The first game was more – I guess it was like Alien – but not quite. It was a little different than that. I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you have these people coming onto an abandoned, shut-down space ship and they have to start it up and something’s on board. It’s just great stuff. I would love to make Dead Space [into a film], I’ll tell you that right now. That one is ready-made.

Would you like to see Carpenter bring a DEAD SPACE feature to theatres. Do let us know!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

“John Carpenter appears to have wound his career down over the last decade or so.” He’s been sick, actually. I think he fought a cancer or something like that. It might have slightly hindered his output…

Also, I’d love a Dead Space film by John Carpenter. Potential awesomeness!
