Acclaimed Austrian writer/director Julian Pölsler has adapted the gripping best-selling novel THE WALL by Marlen Haushofer, which follows a woman (Martina Gedeck) seemingly cut off from civilisation. When walking with her dog Lynx in the countryside near her home, she comes up against an invisible force that appears to have separated her from her friends and neighbours to live a lonely existence that could also threaten mental state.
Despite the wide open and stunning natural beauty location, this trailer suggests an unnerving claustrophobic thriller could be in the offering. I know nothing about book it’s based but this could be a super(natural), psychological thriller that may just see me pick it up with a Stephen King-like vibe. The film is released in the UK from the 5th July. No word yet on a US date.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
