Although we’re not expecting it until the winter of 2014, we’ve got the first details of Embankment Films and Andy Serkis’s company The Imaginarium‘s upcoming version of ANIMAL FARM. It will be based on George Orwell’s 1945 novel, the book that is not only one of TIME magazine’s best 100 since 1923, but it also sits deservedly in the Modern Library List of the 20th Century List.
The book is also brutal, and takes an allegorical approach to reflect the events of the Stalin era in the -then- Soviet Union. I’m not entirely sure of what this first poster/image portrays but Andy Cavendish, co-founder of The Imaginarium with Serkis, had this to say about their production:
“With Animal Farm, we will reinvent this iconic story for a new generation, using the unique storytelling techniques offered by performance capture. The acquisition of these two projects marks an exciting time for all us at The Imaginarium.”
Andy Serkis went on to add:
“We are delighted to announce officially our involvement in bringing this classic yet controversial fable to life, hopefully allowing it to resonate for our times with a combination of a fresh perspective, real emotional heart, a great deal of humor and satire. By utilising performance capture, a deeply talented and committed cast of actors will be able to explore and fully inhabit Orwell’s fairy tale world where ‘some animals are more equal than others’.”
Andy Serkis is set to direct and act in ANIMAL FARM, he will also co–produce with Cavendish. We’ll bring you more news as we have it, with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES getting closer, we’ll also get another look at how advanced motion-capture is becoming to create that unique blend of human and animated character.
