In the grand old tradition, well in recent times, of animated Halloween Specials, I’m excited to share the first still from Pixar’s ‘TOY STORY OF TERROR!’. I’ve always quite enjoyed The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror as they venture though various homages and pastiche and to see the TOY STORY toys back up on the screen, in any form, is pretty darn cool.
We first heard news of this back in October of last year and obviously animation takes a little longer than most to bring to life, but it’s been confirmed that ABC in the USA will screen it in October this year. The story follows Bonnie on a road trip to visit her grandma and she’s taken all the toys along with her for the journey, as her favourite is Jessie (Joan Cusack), this one-off will feature the cowgirl a little more prominently but everyone is going to be there!
Read what Director Angus MacLane had to say about the short, and then scroll down for that spooky new image!
“There was some support to make a scary, but not necessarily Halloween-themed half-hour Toy Story special for television. There was some concern early on about not making it too scary for kids. I think we’ve done a good job of balancing staying true to Toy Story and staying true to the genre. As far as adults are concerned, I’ve always thought that we make these movies for ourselves. I think it’s funny and like the other Toy Story films, I think there is plenty of stuff in there that only adults will get.”
Am I more excited than I should be for this? Yeah, probably but…can’t wait! Hopefully we’ll be receiving it at a similar time over in the UK. It’ll also star Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton) and Trixie (Kristen Schaal). Oh, and there’s also the chance to meet Combat Carl who starred briefly in the first film and is voiced by Carl Weathers.
