Drew Goddard Set Take ‘The Martian’ For Fox

drew-goddard

Primarily known for his writing work on Joss Whedon and J.J. Abrams’ TV projects BUFFY, ANGEL, ALIAS and LOST, Drew Goddard scored major breakout success with found-footage creature feature, CLOVERFIELD. The Matt Reeves-directed film got the writers name into the mainstream but Goddard’s directorial debut, the genre-splicing effort THE CABIN IN THE WOODS, certainly showed he has a knack for taking charge. Crafting a mind-bending thriller with healthy doses of clever sci-fi, intense horror and laugh-out-loud comedy.

Goddard looks to have landed his next project with 20th Century Fox hiring him to write and direct an adaptation of acclaimed best-selling e-book THE MARTIAN by author Andy Weir.  The story centers on a stranded astronaut crashing on Mars who must work out a survival plan so he can return to Earth.

We’ll keep you posted as the project develops.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
