Blunt To Step ‘Into The Woods’

Emily Blunt

We reported on Wednesday that the very charming Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine were rumoured to be joining Walt Disney Pictures live-action musical INTO THE WOODS. If the cast wasn’t already brilliant enough (the pair will be joining Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and James Corden) Emily Blunt is reported to be taking on the lead female role.

The story follows a humble baker (Corden) and his wife (would-be Blunt), who yearn to have a child. However, they must team together and travel into the deep, dark woods to confront the evil witch (Streep) who cursed them, preventing pregnancy. Gyllenhaal and Pine are expected to play the pompous prince ‘boyfriends’ to Cinderella and Rapunzel (who have not yet been cast (I’m available!)). It was originally reported that Depp would be playing ‘The Wolf’, but this has since changed to an ‘unspecified role’. THE GOOD WIFE’s Christine Baranski is also in talks to join the all-singing, all-dancing set.

Directed by Rob Marshall (CHICAGO – so he knows how to make a musical), INTO THE WOODS is expected to start filming from this autumn.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
