Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson was previously attached to the fact-based gangster thriller based on the life of John Gotti and his ‘family’. However, JURASSIC PARK 3 and CAPTAIN AMERICA’s Joe Johnston’s was recently installed as the new helmer.
Real-life couple John Travolta and Kelly Preston have been attached to the project from pretty much day one, with Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Lindsay Lohan, Ben Foster and Chazz Palminteri also set to co-star. Whether or not those names are still interested (well, Pesci has a lawsuit pending against to producers so you can rule him out) following Levinson’s departure remains to be seen but we can at least confirm Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast in the murderous story told from the point-of-view of the late mafia Don’s son. The Academy Award-winning actor has previously worked with Johnston on Universal’s remake of THE WOLFMAN.
GOTTI: IN THE SHADOW OF MY FATHER has a screenplay from cult actor Leo Rossi, which was given an overhaul by THE LIMEY and HAYWIRE’s Lem Dobbs. Expect the film later next year as shooting begins in September.
