X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has been filming for awhile now, but that doesn’t mean the film has finished casting. Director Bryan Singer, recently Tweeted that AMERICAN HORROR STORY star Evan Peters will be joining the film as the super speedy Quicksilver, the son of Magneto (to be portrayed by Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen). Now this news is both confusing and exciting, as Joss Whedon recently announced that Quicksilver would be a character in THE AVENGERS 2. Now it’s unclear as to whether the character of Quicksilver belongs exclusively to Fox, the holders of the rights to X-MEN. Perhaps Whedon was confused or misinformed about being able to use Quicksilver.
But the story doesn’t end there, as Singer’s Tweet was clearly teasing Whedon’s announcement with the line “Before he was an Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid.” Whedon actually wrote a draft of the original X-MEN back in the day, but his script was rejected for its pop-culture referencing tone. You can now expect rumours to abound that Fox and Marvel have reached a deal for at least one cross-over character, and as unlikely as that may seem, we can but hope. After all, I’d hate to think that Fox have made a last minute casting just to spite the Marvel universe and its success.
X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is set for release 18th July 2014. It will star James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Booboo Stewart, Omar Sy, Evan Peters, and Ian McKellen.

According to what I’ve read, due to their Avengers status, Marvel Studios have the right to use the Maximoff siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as long as they don’t refer to them as mutants or children of Magneto. Now it would be great if the two studios could strike a deal that would allow them to use the same actors in both franchises, thus preventing a recast.
