The days when director Renny Harlin was the go-to-guy for big-screen action and thrills are sadly long gone. The man who gave us enjoyable madness of DIE HARD 2, CLIFFHANGER and THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT has saw his stock plummet following the expensive disaster CUTTHROAT ISLAND, which in all honesty wasn’t all that bad despite notoriously bankrupting Carolco Pictures. Lately, Harlin’s stepped into the world of TV. Directing episodes of BURN NOTICE, WHITE COLLAR and the upcoming GRACELAND but he’ll be hoping to kick-start his cinematic career with one of two HERCULES projects on the horizon.
Hoping to beat Brett Ratner and Dwayne Johnston’s HERCULES: THE THRACIAN WARS to the punch, Harlin’s HERCULES 3D will star TWILIGHT hunk Kellan Lutz as the mythic and heroic Greek god. The film is currently shooting with a supporting cast that includes Scott Adkins, Johnathon Schaech, Liam McIntyre, Rade Serbedzija, Kenneth Cranham, Luke Newberry and Richard Reid.
Here we have the first teaser poster from the film expected next year. Will it beat The Rock’s blockbuster even with a director as poor as Ratner? The short answer is a certain ‘No’!
