With the recent casting of Evan Peters as Quicksilver in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST right after Joss Whedon confirmed the character’s appearance in THE AVENGERS 2, people have speculated what that means for the future of the two franchises and whether this is going to ‘link’ the two worlds together or whether it is two very separate characters.
The question of character licensing has been asked a lot ever since Marvel succesfully managed to create a huge fluent cinematic world after having signed away the rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men. This of course have sparked questions of whether Marvel could ever strike a deal with Sony and Fox about some sort of cross-over between the universes, however nothing concrete has so far come out of it.
Now the crown jewel of Fox’ X-Men universe, Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman has commented on the possibility of doing battle with or against The Avengers some time in the future while talking on the set of THE WOLVERINE.
One of the great things about this movie is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past. I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I think it’s fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, ‘I don’t know what the legal situation is, but why don’t these companies come together? Why isn’t it possible?’ Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr. and Iron Man and kick his ass. It’d be great.
This would undoubtedly be what could take the Marvel cinematic universe to the next level, but whether or not it would actually be happening is still uncertain. If they could actually make an X-Men/Avengers crossover happen there is no doubt that it would make pretty much all the money in the world. What do you guys think? Would you like to see this happen?
