‘Dexter’s Michael C. Hall Is ‘Cold In July’

dexters7art1_FULL

The great Michael C. Hall, who’ll leave his signature role of Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s serial-killer drama later this year, has landed the lead role in an adaptation of Joe Lansdale’s cult crime novel COLD IN JULY. The film is set to be directed by Jim Mickle, whose 2010 vampire thriller STAKE LAND delivered one best underrated horror films of the last decade. The filmmaker’s most recent work is the acclaimed remake of dark Mexican family drama/cannibal horror, WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, which is expected later this year.

Hall will take the role of Richard Dane, a man who shoots and kills an armed burglar in his own living room. However, the simple enough case of self defence soon turns sadistic when the burglar’s father swears Old Testament-style eye-for-an-eye justice. The ensuing events see cops, the feds, and the Dixie mafia all play a part in the dark tale of revenge.

Could this be the role that catapults Hall into mainstream cinema following years as an acclaimed theatre and television star. We’ll find when the film is released next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
