You should know by now that I’m always eager to share a screening event (LIFE OF PI with TigersEPIC in the tree-tops!), and especially one with an interesting twist! Today, British Airways have announced that they’re bringing back ‘Silent Picturehouse’. This unique cinematic experience will show five travel-inspired films on big screens in the evening, and children’s movies by day.

The innovative twist is that viewers can tune in from personal headsets, replicating the in-flight experience but also choosing what film you want to listen to!  Silent Picturehouse to set to take place in an exclusive London venue between 22nd-26th July, with top presenter Edith Bowman hosting the launch night. The five films being shown on giant screens simultaneously are:

  • The latest James Bond hit SKYFALL on the Best of BAFTA 2013’ screen
  • Timeless thriller JAWS on the ‘Classic Summer Blockbuster’ screen
  • Adventure drama THE BEACH on the ‘Travel Classics’ screen
  • And cult-classic TOP GUN on the ‘Flight in Film’ screen

There will also be a ‘Fans’ Choice’ screen, showing either; CASABLANCA, INTO THE WILD, SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE or THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL. To chose which one you want to see, you’re encouraged to vote and that opens on June 11th at facebook.com/britishairways with a pair of tickets to the event up for grabs.

Silent Picturehouse is being held in association with the airline’s partner the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) and supported by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Abigail Comber, British Airways head of marketing, had this to say about the event:

“Silent Picturehouse is back by popular demand, and this time we’ve extended it to a week including a daytime kids cinema. There’s something for everyone, with movies ranging from blockbuster hits to all time classics.  The unique concept brings the in-flight entertainment experience to life, making you feel like you’ve travelled the world from your seat!”

In the daytime, and just as those summers holidays begin, the venue will be hosting  ‘Silent Picturehouse Kids’. Here, they’re show a selection of Disney films across the five screens, including; UP, CARS 2, Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, THE MUPPETS and a preview clip of the upcoming release of PLANES.

Tickets start from £7.50 and include entry to the screening rooms, plus food and drink. Bookings can be made at ba.com/silentpicturehouse from Monday 24th June.

Inspired by travel and film, the venue will be completely overhauled to create a dramatic setting, complete with movie memorabilia and travel artifacts to enrich the viewing experience – so that guests feel like they’ve stepped onto a film set. The in-flight menu features gourmet popcorn, lip-licking hot dogs and retro pick ‘n’ mix, produced by Michelin star chef Simon Hulstone. Guests will also be treated to Tattinger champagne and cocktails from the movies. We can’t wait!
