It looks as though Bond hasn’t finished with his SKYFALL villain Silva (Javier Bardem), as Yahoo! Movies UK is reporting that Bardem’s real life wife, Penelope Cruz, will star as the latest Bond Girl in BOND 24. Currently pregnant with her second child, Cruz would start filming next year, thus making her the oldest Bond girl in history at the age of 40. The previous holder of the title was GOLDFINGER’s Honor Blackman, who was 39 at the time. However, I seriously doubt anybody’s going to comment on Cruz being “too old”, especially since she is both stunning and age appropriate for the 45 year old Daniel Craig.
Sam Mendes has recently reentered negotiations to direct the next two Bond films, which will give him a trilogy to end Craig’s run. No word yet on whether Cruz’s potential casting and being married to the previous Bond villain in real life will tie in together, but perhaps she plays an old flame of Silva’s looking for revenge. Of course, it could just be that Mendes and Cruz met during production on SKYFALL and discussed a future part for the Oscar winning actress.
