Blumhouse & Platinum Dunes Plan To Commence ‘The Purge’… Again!

The Purge Poster Image

This Friday will see the release of writer/director James DeMonaco’s eerily intense home-invasion shocker THE PURGE in the US, while we in the UK saw it surface last Friday. I myself have just came out of a showing earlier tonight and found it an effective thriller with a very promising premise. It’s a concept Blumhouse Productions, along with Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, are obviously impressed with as their already planning another sadistic night of violence with THE PURGE 2.

Set in the near future of 2022, North America has managed to lower it’s crime rate to 1%. How? Well, how about allowing the patriotic people of the US a limited time to release all that pent up anger and ruthlessness with a 12 hour annual period in which all and any crime is legal. However, when a family find their young son’s act of kindness has made them a target for a masked gang awaiting outside, they’re all promised to pay with their lives.

Ethan Hawke (reuniting with Blumhouse following supernatural chiller SINISTER) and Brit Beauty Lena Headey lead the edge-of-your-seat thriller set for US cinemas on the 7th June. You can read our very own Chris’ review HERE, (although I feel he’s been very harsh). If and when you see it, why not let us know if you’d like to survive a sequel!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
