He may be more used to kicking ass and fighting gigantic monsters, but Aaron Taylor-Johnson may soon take after the likes of Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds by taking on another superhero role. The word on the street (if you can imagine the internet as a street) is that Taylor-Johnson is being courted as THE AVENGERS 2’s Quicksilver, the super fast mutant son of Magneto. Although, in Joss Whedon’s iteration he wont be a mutant or Magneto’s son, as those particular traits belong to Fox, who are also using Quicksilver in the upcoming X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Evan Peters will be playing the part in that film, but with so many cast members and characters already announced, we have to wonder just how much screen time Peters will have, and if Bryan Singer is just using him to annoy Whedon.
With different casting rumours, it is now clear that the rumoured X-MEN and THE AVENGERS cross-over is unlikely to happen just yet. It’s a shame that just one character couldn’t cross the divide and bring peace among the land. Saoirse Ronan is said to be in consideration for Quicksilver’s sister, The Scarlet Witch in THE AVENGERS 2, and I can easily picture her and Taylor-Johnson as brother and sister. No matter what, this is bound to be an interesting case as even the effects used for Quicksilver are likely to be different.
THE AVENGERS 2 will hit cinemas on 1st May 2015.
