This week saw us bring you the first two posters from GHOST RIDER and DAREDEVIL director Mark Steven Johnson’s survival thriller KILLING SEASON. Coming pretty swiftly after those is this rather drab and uninspiring first trailer for the film pitting Robert De Niro’s retired military veteran, against John Travolta’s sadistic former Serbian soldier in a rough mountainous terrain. The official plot synopsis is as follows:
American military veteran Benjamin Ford (De Niro) has fled to a cabin retreat somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains to forget the painful memories of the Bosnian War he fought in. One day, visitor Emil Kovac (Travolta), a European tourist, knocks on his door, and the two men begin an unlikely friendship. When it develops that Kovac is in fact a former Serbian soldier bent on revenge, there begins a one-on-one confrontation and battle between the two throughout the harsh mountain environment.
KILLING SEASON had previously been a project to reunite Travolta and FACE/OFF co-star Nicolas Cage, with DIE HARD’s John McTiernan at the helm before changes were forced. It now opens in the US on the 12th July. No word yet on a UK date. Being a fan of both actors I had high hopes for this, but this trailer gives off a ‘creaky’ vibe that’s trying too hard. Still, fingers crossed as it surely can’t be as bad as Johnson’s woeful comic-book efforts… Can it?
