The underrated, ‘that guy out of …’ actor, William Fichtner was recently cast as the antagonist in Platinum Dunes’ big-screen reboot of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s cult comic-book TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. While the role was described as being of “iconic stature” within the the familiar TMNT universe, rumour ranged from Krang, Rat King and of course, Shredder.

Fichtner, known for his roles in Michael Bay’s (an obvious link considering he’s producer on this live-action/motion-capture mix) ARMAGEDDON and PEARL HARBOUR, as well as the upcoming ELYSIUM and THE LONE RANGER confirmed:

I play Shredder. It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, ‘Really? Let me think about this for a minute.’ [Laughs] Then I was like, ‘Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.’ I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.

Fichtner will appear opposite Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Will Arnett and Danny Woodburn in the film set for cinemas 6th June 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
