Fans of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Viking drama VALHALLA RISING may be a little surprised to hear that the director is planning the sequel…in Tokyo.
When asked about the original (starring TV HANNIBAL’s Mads Mikkelsen), Nicolas said he’d spoken to Mads about ‘revisiting the character from VALHALLA RISING’, believing that there is a ‘similarity between VALHALLA RISING, DRIVE and ONLY GOD FORGIVES.’ He continued to say that he wanted to go back and discover the origins of the character but ‘make the movie in Tokyo. Tokyo is a world onto itself’.
This is, of course, coming from the crazy mind that brought us near-silent Ryan Gosling in DRIVE, with rumours circulating that ONLY GOD FORGIVES follows suit, with The Gos speechless throughout. We’ll have to wait and see what Nic cooks up!
