Phillip Seymour Hoffman Owning Mahowny

Daniel Espinosa’s forthcoming adaptation of Tom Rob Smith’s dark novel, CHILD 44, already has a superb cast in place with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES duo Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman, PROMETHEUS’ Noomi Rapace and lead of upcoming ROBOCOP reboot, Joel Kinnaman, who also featured in Espinosa’s SAFE HOUSE and EASY MONEY (aka SNABBA CASH). However, the Summit Entertainment production will also boast the brilliant Philip Seymour Hoffman, who’ll join the Richard Price scripted story based on first of Smith’s trilogy of best-selling books.

The Stalin era Soviet Union-set plot centres on a security guard and former war hero named Leo Demidov (Hardy), who decides to investigate a series of child murders in a country where supposedly this sort of crime doesn’t exist. The state refuses to believe that the existence of a child murderer, let alone a serial killer as being responsible. After being demoted and exiled, with just the help of his wife (Rapace), he continues pursuing the case to discover the horrifying truth.

There is no word on Hoffman’s role but this is looking like an superb and gripping thriller to watch out for.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
