Whenever the idea of a biopic of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar is rumoured, it always brings back into my mind the hilarious scenes featured in hit HBO series ENTOURAGE. The upcoming PARADISE LOST may centre on the looming, foreboding presence of Escobar but it’s far from the factual events we know about the cartel kingpin.
Instead, director Andrea di Stefano’s film is a dark fantasy of sorts as Josh Hutcherson leads as a young surfer, who, while visiting Colombia to see his brother, falls deeply in love with stunning local girl Maria (Claudia Traisac). However, fear strikes when he discovers that her uncle is the over-protective and ruthless ‘Cocaine King’. The tone of the film is said to be similar to Kevin McDonald’s acclaimed dark African ‘adventure’, THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND.
Here we have the official first still of Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro as the notorious corrupt drug trafficker and murderer in the film set for release next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
