The trailer for comedy RIDE ALONG looks like a big blended concoction of comedic premises that could very well add up to something delectable. In what could be described as MEET THE PARENTS meets TRAINING DAY, Kevin Hart plays a school security guard who is out to get the blessing of his girlfriend’s brother, Ice Cube. Cube is a no nonsense cop who offers Hart the chance to go on a ride along to prove he’s worthy. It looks like a serviceable buddy cop comedy, with some jokes missing and some hitting very hard. The trailer opens with your typical practice-proposal twist joke, but soon made my sides split with Hart’s handling of a white on white school fight. Cube continues not to “fuck the police” as he did in 21 JUMP STREET as he once again plays a cop. Director of THINK LIKE A MAN, BARBERSHOP, and FANTASTIC FOUR, Tim Story, takes the helm.
RIDE ALONG is scheduled for a 7th January 2014 release in the US. It stars Kevin Hart, Ice Cube, John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, and Tika Sumpter.
