She may be in the depths of VERONICA MARS at the moment after that very successful Kickstarter campaign but now Kristen Bell has got a great-looking indie project on the way as well in the form of THE LIFEGUARD.
We shared the first poster recently and although it didn’t give anything away, it did have that small-film vibe already and now the trailer confirms this and in all the right ways. The trailer shows her character Leigh, heading back to live at home after quitting her successful job in New York as a journalist. This is the debut project for Liz W Garcia and I think it looks really interesting with Bell taking on a stripped down, natural-looking performance and really exploring that narrative where the lead tries to find what’s the right thing for them in their life.
I’m a big fan of this type of film and although it can be difficult to get right, this trailer gives me a lot of hope so, do check it out for yourself here:
THE LIFEGUARD also stars Mamie Gummer, Martin Starr and Joshua Harto and currently only has a US release date set at August 30th. We’re expecting it to turn up at some Film Festivals along the way, and will get that UK release date when we hear.
