Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, a duo known for their their own comedy roles in TV and film, as well as writing Alexander Payne’s acclaimed THE DESCENDANTS, make their directorial debut with coming-of-age dramedy, THE WAY WAY BACK. The film has featured heavily on the festival circuit, garnering many positive reviews and with the superb cast consisting of Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Liam James, Toni Collette, Anna-Sophia Robb, Amanda Peet, Rob Corddry and Maya Rudolph, we’re eager to see this ourselves.

THE WAY WAY BACK is set over the course of one summer break, with shy teenager Duncan (James) landing a job at a waterpark, who soon comes into his own following the close friendship he strikes up with the park’s likeable manager (Rockwell). It’s released in US cinemas from the 5th July and the UK from the 28th August and we have the brand new international trailer, poster and set of stills below:

Written and directed by the Oscar winning writers of THE DESCENDANTS,  THE WAY, WAY BACK is the funny and poignant coming of age story of 14-year-old Duncan’s (Liam James) summer vacation with his mother, Pam (Toni Collette), her overbearing boyfriend, Trent (Steve Carell), and his daughter, Steph (Zoe Levin).  Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen (Sam Rockwell), the carefree manager of the Water Wizz water park. Through his friendship with Owen, Duncan slowly opens up and begins to finally find his place in the world – all during a summer that will change his life.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
